There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
