There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
